Birdy's Being.

My work is born out of quiet observation, a fascination with allegory and symbolism, and moves through multiple layers of liminality. 

Since my earliest memories, synaesthesia has placed me in shifting sensory planes usually not shared by those around me. The camera becomes an anchor: a first act of orientation. I leave that initial image untouched and unseen, often for years, then return to unfold it. What was once a static print is disrupted, becoming a site of transformation, worked through in an array of photographic and mixed-media techniques. Rather than follow a fixed method or medium, I take a haptic approach, which can involve the use of paint, video, and handmade filters for example.

I enjoy letting the pieces gather into constellations, in dialogue with one another, and invite others to trace their own lines between them.
